Discover House of Imah: A Customer-Centered Journey Through the Akure Collection
The Birth of a Vision: Where Heritage Meets Personal Style
Fashion is an ever-evolving story, and with each new collection, we at House of Imah aim to tell a new chapter of that story. The Akure Collection was birthed from the inspiration of my second-ever show, the Young Atlanta Show in 2024. I had a deep desire to leave a lasting impression, something more than just a collection of beautiful garments. I wanted to create a journey, a blend of African heritage and modern Western flair that would resonate with every individual who witnessed it.
Leading up to the show, I had already designed a collection I called Heavenly Dresses—gowns that were elegant, sophisticated, and fit for royalty. But this time, I wanted to step outside the comfort zone. My vision expanded to include menswear and accessories, as I sought to cater to a broader audience. As I dove deeper into the design process, I began asking myself an essential question: What kind of outfit reminds you of home?
I knew what home meant to me, but my focus was always on the muse—the model, the customer. I wanted my models to feel incredible in the clothes I designed, just as I want you to feel when wearing House of Imah. For me, that would be the moment where everything aligns perfectly. When you feel like yourself, transformed, confident—that is where the magic happens.
Now, come with me on a journey through the Akure Collection, as I take you behind the scenes of the design process, the inspiration, and how each piece was crafted with a specific personality and need in mind.
The Rockstar: Designing for Confident
The moment I saw Josiah, I knew he was a rockstar. From his clean locks to the shades he wore, to his sleeveless shirt, he oozed effortless cool. There's something about men who can rock sleeveless shirts with style, and Josiah embodied that energy perfectly.
For the customers who aren't afraid to stand out and showcase their unique energy, I designed this bold statement piece. I wanted to keep his look bold and daring—something perfect for a man who's not afraid to show off his physique. It's a look that's perfect for the warmer months or layering when the seasons change.
This style was created for those moments when you want to make an unforgettable entrance while remaining authentically yourself. Each element was carefully considered to enhance confidence while providing versatility for various occasions.
The Royal Presence: Elevated Elegance for Every Day
When I first met Travis, I couldn't help but be struck by his regal posture. He carried himself like royalty—demure yet confident. I knew he was the perfect model to wear an embroidered shirt, so I began designing with that in mind.
For customers who value sophistication with cultural significance, I created a two piece for him, made of black wool and embroidered in gold. The black symbolized strength, depth, and power, while the gold added a touch of regality. I wanted the details to shine, creating a seamless combination of textures.
This ensemble was designed for those who appreciate the subtle power of refined details and wish to honor heritage while making a contemporary statement. The careful balance of traditional craftsmanship and modern styling makes this perfect for those who lead with quiet authority.
Earthy Elegance: Comfort Without Compromising Style
Ezekiel's energy is warm and grounded. There's an earthy quality to him that just lights up any room he enters. For our customers who prioritize both comfort and sophisticated style, this design addresses that exact need.
I chose linen as the base material—relaxing, light, and breathable. Green embroidery added a final touch of depth, and his flared pants, just as he requested. This simple yet intentional design showcases that less is often more when done with the right details.
This piece was created for those days when you need versatility without sacrificing elegance—when you want to move freely while still looking polished. It's the answer to the modern need for clothing that respects both tradition and contemporary lifestyles.
Clean Vibes: Classic Formality with a Bold Twist
Josh gave me those clean vibes that you can't quite put into words. For those special occasions when you need to make a refined impression while still showcasing personality, this design delivers perfectly.
I knew a cream formal look would do him justice, so I created a classic design with a twist—a red hat adorned with gold beading. This Awolowo cap style is often worn for formal events, and Josh absolutely owned it.
This ensemble speaks to those who appreciate the power of a well-executed classic look but still want that element of surprise that makes the outfit memorable. It bridges formal requirements with personal expression—a balance many of our customers seek.
Streetwear Meets Aso-Oke: Revolutionary Style Fusion
When it comes to Jordan, I was absolutely thrilled to work with him. He had a daring vision for his style, and I knew that's exactly what I wanted to design for him.
For our forward-thinking customers who aren't afraid to break new ground, this innovative fusion was born. Jordan wanted streetwear, but I wanted to mix it with something unexpected—baggy Aso-oke pants. I had never seen anything like it, and creating them was a moment of pure innovation for me. The blending of traditional and modern styles was my ultimate creative triumph in this collection.
This design caters specifically to those who see fashion as self-expression without boundaries—where cultural heritage becomes a springboard for entirely new fashion conversations rather than a limitation.
Modest Elegance: Graceful Comfort with Cultural Significance
Alexandra is a model I have a great deal of respect for. She's always been vocal about her modest styling preferences, and I knew she'd do justice to a traditional Boubou.
For customers who value modest fashion without compromising on color and presence, this piece offers the perfect solution. I chose a deep burgundy tone for her, and the unique gathering of the fabric added an elevated touch to this timeless piece. For Alexandra, it was about balancing comfort with grace.
This garment addresses the needs of those who seek cultural connection and modest coverage while still wanting to feel fashionable and current. The careful attention to draping ensures it flatters many body types while maintaining its cultural integrity.
A Yoruba Woman in Aso-Oke: Heritage with Modern Structure
Bara is the only Nigerian model I worked with whilst designing this collection, and I knew she'd understand and appreciate the depth of the designs I wanted to create.
For those who celebrate their cultural roots while embracing contemporary silhouettes, this design bridges both worlds seamlessly. The Aso-oke fabric is a symbol of cultural pride, and for Bara, it was essential to combine tradition with modern flair. I designed a corset feature to allow flexibility in the fit, enabling her to achieve that perfect hourglass look. Paired with dramatic long sleeves and a simple mini skirt, this piece was all about balance.
This ensemble speaks directly to customers who want their cultural heritage highlighted through thoughtful design innovations that honor tradition while creating something distinctly current.
Gold Aso-Oke Royalty: Celebration of Natural Beauty
Esther is the embodiment of royalty. With her striking ebony skin and graceful demeanor, I knew a gold Aso-oke dress would highlight her elegance perfectly.
For customers who want to celebrate special occasions with memorable impact, this design delivers royal presence. The mini dress, with a square neck to frame her collar, was the perfect canvas for showcasing her long legs. A bow at the back of the dress added that unexpected element of surprise—a nod to the Barbie-like elegance that Esther exudes effortlessly.
This piece was crafted for those moments when you want your outfit to be a conversation starter that honors both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary silhouettes—perfect for those who appreciate how clothing can transform a moment into an occasion.
Cocoa and Butter Beauty: Timeless Sophistication
Jessica returned to walk in this collection, and I wanted to take her out of her comfort zone this time. Instead of the elegant gold she wore last year, I placed her in a simple but classic brown satin dress.
For those who value understated luxury and versatile elegance, this design answers that specific need. The cocoa and butter tones complemented her warm complexion beautifully, and the satin fabric gently draped over her frame, enhancing her natural beauty. The single draped sleeve added an air of sophistication, elevating the piece into something truly special.
This design speaks to those who understand that sometimes the most impactful statement is one of refined simplicity—where exquisite fabric and thoughtful construction do all the talking.
Your Story, Your Style: The House of Imah Promise
The Akure Collection is about more than just clothing; it's about creating a dialogue between African heritage and modern fashion. Each piece was designed with your needs and desires in mind—whether you seek bold self-expression, cultural connection, modest elegance, or innovative fusion.

From the intricate details of the embroidery to the bold use of fabrics like Aso-oke and velvet, every piece was designed with intention and purpose.
I hope you can feel the passion and creativity that went into every garment. This collection was a reflection of my own journey and my desire to share my love for fashion, heritage, and craftsmanship with you—the customer whose story matters most.
